Performing Arts Classes

Fall Session I: Sept 4-Oct 15 (6 weeks)      Fall Session II: Oct 16-Dec 15 (8 weeks)

Zumbini! 10 week session - $135 (includes $35 materials fee)
This is a music and movement class for ages 0-4 years. Zumbini classes are "grownup and me" style classes. There is a $35 additional materials fee for this class because the materials used in class (cd, music, etc.) are yours to keep and use with your little one at home. Preschool Classes - Ages 3-5: 
A fun way for your little one to develop coordination and movement to music. This class will help young dancers gain discipline and socialization with peers. Students will learn some basic fundamentals of ballet as well as develop a love for the art of dance. Preschool classes are combined with a different form of dance in order to expose students to different rhythms and techniques.

Elementray Classes - Ages 5-9
Elementary classes are geared towards school-age children who are enrolled or have completed kindergarten. Dancers will begin to learn proper technique and terminology while learning body awareness and gaining confidence. Classes will involve age-appropriate movement and exercises at the barre, center, and across he floor. Dancers will be prepared to easily transition into our Youth Program.

Youth Ballet Program - Ages 9+
Ballet is the foundation for all other dance forms. As students progress, a variety of techniques will be used to bring dancers to their full potential. A typical ballet class consists of the following: stretching, barre exercises where students will master proper technique, movement across the floor (leaps, turns, etc.), and center work. Harbourtown Dance studio has a strong focus on not only proper technique, but proper and execution and appropriate style. Dancers will learn correct alignment, body awareness and, injury prevention. Class content will vary based on the ability and skill level of each class. 
Youth Ballet I /II (ages 9+) Thursday 5:45-6:45pm

Advanced Ballet (teacher recommendation only) Thursday 6:00-7:30pm

Youth Contemporary Jazz - Ages 9+
Students will learn a combination of both lyrical, modern, and jazz dance. Modern section will be based on techniques formed by Martha Graham and Lester Horton. We will learn new and innovative leaps and turns, and floor-work which will be incorporated into different combinations. Most importantly, students will learn to express emotion through movement and different types of choreography. Students will be asked to explore and share their own personal creativity and emotion through movement. 
Youth Contemporary Jazz I (ages 9+) Tuesday 5:00-6:00pm
Youth Contemporary Jazz II (ages 12+) Tuesday 6:00-7:00pm
Advanced Contemporary Jazz III (teacher recommendation only) Tuesday 7:00-8:00pm

Youth Musical Theatre Jazz - Ages 9+
This class will teach classical Broadway jazz technique. This style of jazz will be significantly different than the style taught in Contemporary Jazz. Classes will be an hour long, beginning with a warm-up, barre, and center-work where students will be taught classic jazz technique and movements from famous choreographers such as Bob Fosse. Students will also practice the use of body language and facial expressions to portray emotion on stage, and will be taught basic theater terminology. This class is essential for serious dancers and actors alike. Students may have the opportunity to combine vocals with choreography for performances.

Teen/Adult Classes - Ages 15+
Teen/Adult classes a fun way to get moving! All classes are beginner/intermediate skill level classes that will incorporate the use of proper technique and terminology. Ballet classes will involve stretch, barre, center, and across the floor elements.

Suggested Youth Programs

Recreational Dancer: Ballet (1x), Contemporary Jazz (1x), Tap or MT Jazz (1-2x) = 3-4 hrs per week

​Serious Dancer: Ballet (2x), Contemporary Jazz (1x), MT Jazz (1x), Tap (1x), Pre-pointe/Pointe (1-2x) = 6-7 hrs per week

Recreational Musical Theatre: Vocal Performance (1x), Theatre Performance (1x), MT Jazz (1x), Tap (1x) = 4 hrs per week

Serious Musical Theatre: Ballet (1-2x), Vocal Performance (1x), Theare Performance (1x), MT Jazz (1x), Tap (1x) = 5.5-7 hrs per week
